Open data
Every year Updraft publishes the aggregate layers it derives from the flights of consenting pilots as open data: the thermal grid, approved take-offs and landings, hazards and skyways. The files are GeoParquet and GeoJSON; no account or key is needed.
What the package does not contain
- Nothing that can point to a person: no pilots, flights, tracks, dates or timestamps, pilot counts or identity hashes.
- No cell or place below a privacy threshold: every value has at least the threshold's number of different pilots behind it on the release day.
- No exact counts: support is given only as a level (at least how many pilots); there is no combined month and hour breakdown and no wind breakdown.
- No objects imported from OpenStreetMap or other sources; only data derived from flights and approved by moderators.

Checking a downloaded file
Compute the file's SHA-256 and compare it with the value in the table; if they match, the file is complete and unchanged. On Windows: certutil -hashfile sites.geojson SHA256
sha256sum sites.geojson
